About Birthstones
Birthstones are gemstones that represent the month of a person's birth. Each stone is believed to bring good fortune, health, and protection to those born in its associated month. The tradition of birthstones dates back thousands of years, with connections to the twelve stones in the breastplate of Aaron as described in the Book of Exodus.
The modern list of birthstones was established in 1912 by the National Association of Jewelers in the United States, though it has been updated several times since then to include alternative stones for some months.
